Goodbye to Pepper

February '08

This was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do.  Pepper has been my loyal buddy almost 19 years and I had to put her down early this month.  November 13, 1989, my mom got me my new best friend, Pepper!

She took me to the Humane Society and let me pick a kitty to call my own.  Hiding in a cat box in the corner, Pepper peeked over the edge at me.  All the other cats were jumping and playing and meowing.  Pepper was quiet and shy.  I picked her because she was the only all-black cat there and that's what I was looking for.  She was a little older than the other kittens.  But I knew she was the one.  My mom said I picked the neurotic cat in the corner!  A decision I've never regretted!

Pepper was the best cat I've ever owned.  She's been an indoor/outdoor cat and eventually in indoor-only cat.  She jumped for hair thingies that I shot over her head, played "wait and attack" with me and slept at my side for years.  She would actually "stay" and let me hide.  Then I'd make a noise and she'd come find me, meowing when she discovered my hiding spot.  When we'd wrestle, she bounce sideways on the tips of her paws, her back arched up and tail frizzed, trying to look bigger and more menacing!  She was something alright!

I'll miss her dearly.

And that is definitely the latest!
