Why Did Jesus Fold the Napkin?

This is one I can honestly say I have never seen circulating in the mails
so; I'll start it, if it touches you and you want to forward it.

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection?  I never noticed this....

The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over
the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes.

The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly
folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin...

Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the
tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance.

She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom John
loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I
don't know where they have put him!'

Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple
outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen
cloth lying there, but he didn't go in.

Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen
wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was
folded up and lying to the side.

Was that important? Absolutely!

Is it really significant? Yes!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to
understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded
napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition.

When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it
was exactly the way the master wanted it.

The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out
of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not
dare touch that table, until the master was finished.

Now if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his
fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and
toss it onto the table.

The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the
wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'.

But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it
beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table,
because............

The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!'

He is Coming Back!

Let's say I break into your house...

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect
its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work
because he too is
hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket
your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker.

Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America....Share it if you see the value of
it as a good simile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security funds.

**I didn't write it, but it seems to say what the majority of law-abiding American citizens are feeling!

IRAQ

1.  The garden of Eden was in Iraq.

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq.

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq.

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq!

11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq!

13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the fiery furnace!)

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq.

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!

And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq!

However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and
Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.

The Blind Man's Sign

There was a blind man sitting on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet, and a sign that read: "I am blind, please help."  A creative publicist was walking by him and stopped to observe that he only had a few coins in the hat. He dropped a few more coins in his hat, and without asking his permission took the sign, turned it around, and wrote another announcement. He placed the sign by his feet, and left.  That afternoon the creative publicist returned by the blind man and noticed that his hat was full of bills and coins.

The blind man recognized his footsteps and asked if it was him who had re-written his sign and he wanted to know what he had written on it. The publicist responded: "Nothing that was not true.  I just wrote your sign differently." He smiled, and went on his way. The blind man never knew, but this sign read:

"TODAY IS SPRING AND I CAN'T SEE IT"

{so, change your strategy when something does not go your way and you'll see it will probably be for the best}

This Pastor has guts!!

This interesting prayer was given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people.

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and call it Pluralism
We have exploited the poor and called it the
lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it
welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it
choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it
justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it
building self-esteem.
We have abused power and called it
politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it
ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it
freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it
enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today;
cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen!"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest..

In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively.
The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one nation under God."

Tell your friends about this prayer. "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything."

Church Jokes

One Nation, "Under God".

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in a classroom.   The teacher was going to explain evolution to the children.

The teacher asked a little boy:  Tommy do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.

TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later)  Yes, I saw the sky.

TEACHER: Did you see God?

TOMMY: No.

TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there.   He just

doesn't exist.

A little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions.

The teacher agreed and the little girl asked the boy:

Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

TOMMY: Yes.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass outside?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?

TOMMY: Yessssss!

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

TOMMY: Yes

LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?

TOMMY: No

LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today in school, she must not have one!

Doing Time in the Service

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was
staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer
of the church. It was covered with names, and small
American flags were mounted on either side of it.

The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for
some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the
little boy, and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."
"Good morning, Pastor," replied the young man, still
focused on the plaque.
"Pastor, what is this?"  "Well, son, it's a memorial
to all the young men and women who died in the
service."

Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large
plaque. Little Alex's voice was barely audible,
trembling with fear, when he asked,  "Which service,
the 9:45 or the 11:15?"

An elderly woman walked into the local country church.

The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps. "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely.

"The front row please," she answered.

"You really don't want to do that," the usher said. "The pastor is really boring."

"Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired.

"No," he said.

"I'm the pastor's mother," she replied indignantly.

"Do you know who I am?" he asked.

"No," she said.

"Good," he answered.

1. Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?" "Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life." The child thought about this for a moment, then said, "So why is the groom wearing black?"

2. A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! SALVATION

Do you know FOR SURE where you will go when you die?  You can't fix it later.  It will be too late.  And since none of us knows exactly when we will die, don't wait to find the truth.  He is "the way, the truth and the life" and no one comes to the Father (in Heaven) except through Jesus Christ.  There is only one alternative to heaven, and you don't want to go there!

From the New International Version Bible

This is how you should pray:

Matthew 6:9-13  "...Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."  For thine is the kingdom and the power and glory forever.  Amen.

God is everywhere, at all times, and sees all things:

Hebrews 4:13  "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."

When you are tired and feel you can't bear anymore:

Matthew 11:28  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

When you are afraid:

Joshua 1:9  "Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

If you feel you are "under attack", maybe having nightmares:

PUT ON THE ARMOR OF GOD (Ephesians 6:11)

God has also provided a defensive weapon for you!  When you feel like you are under attack by Satan, you can put on the full armor of God to protect you!  Here is a simple prayer you can pray:

Heavenly Father, I am thankful for the armor you have provided for my protection.  I put on the belt of Truth, the breastplate of Righteousness, the sandals of Peace and the helmet of Salvation.  I lift up the Shield of Faith to protect me from the fiery darts of the enemy.  I take in my hand the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and use Your Word against all the forces of evil in my life; and I put on this armor and live and pray in complete dependence upon You, blessed Holy Spirit.  I pray these things in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Do not brag about what you have or what you do:

1 John 2:15-17  "Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."

What's the real story?  Why did Jesus die on the cross for you? (John 3:16) Where will you go when you die?  Are you sure?  What if you are wrong?

What you should think about is this...there is only ONE way!  Jesus said, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.  NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT THROUGH ME."  It is very clear.

You can't make the decision AFTER you die.  It will be too late.  Research it yourself.  Read the Bible. Ask questions about it.  It's only natural to have questions...even lots of questions! The only way to learn is to ask questions so you can get answers.  It's okay to not understand every little detail!  I know of a wonderful church called Skyline Wesleyan Church and the pastor is Dr. James Garlow.  He is a wonderful teacher of God's Word.  He teaches directly from the Bible and his sermons can be heard right on your computer! Go to www.skylinechurch.org and you can listen to him teach!  Another wonderful church is Maranatha Chapel; the pastor is Ray Bentley.  There are so many good churches out there!

I am sure you also have wonderful churches in your community that have people you can ask questions.  Just make sure you go to a church that teaches from the Bible.  Some churches call themselves Christian but they teach of New Age or Spiritual but not Biblical ways.  Ways that are meant to be "comfortable".  They will say there are more ways than one to get to heaven...but, they are very wrong!  So just be aware to look for the true teachings.  Look for a church that teaches directly from the Bible.  Or you can ask me and I will help you find the answers!

The New Testament tells the story by many of Jesus' followers of what He said and did while living here on Earth.  It talks about why He was sent to die on the cross for all of our sins.  It tells of how He resurrected 3 days later.  He is alive today and He wants to live in your heart and be your personal Lord and Saviour!  How cool is that?!  He loves you so much!  All you have to do pray the sinner's prayer, confess your sins (we all sin, not just you!) and ask Him to be your Lord and Saviour.  He will wash away your sins and make you clean.  He stands at the door knocking, hoping you will let Him in.  (Revelation 3:20)

He loves each and every person, no matter what they have said or done That's hard to believe for us because we live with emotions that sometimes makes it hard to forgive someone for something.  But, Jesus forgives anything and everything we do if we will only repent of our sins (admit we have sinned) and ask Him to forgive us.  He not only forgives, but He forgets!  He doesn't remember our wrong-doings!  It's easy for us to dwell on our past mistakes and feel guilty over and over again.  Satan is happy to constantly fill your mind with doubt and guilt.  But, once we repent to Jesus, He forgives us, we get a clean slate, and He will remember your sins no more What a blessing!  Do you know anyone else who will do that for you?  If you do, then you are lucky.  But, most people make the human mistake of bringing up the past to hurt someone by reminding them they did something wrong.  We have all done it!  Jesus won't.

What do I do now?

Ask Jesus into your heart.  You can say a simple prayer like this:

Dear Jesus,  I know I have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  I ask You to forgive my sins and come into my heart to be my Lord and Savior.  Make me new.  Help me to live the life you have planned out for me.  Help me to find a place to worship that I might learn more about Your Word.  Thank you for loving me and choosing me!  Thank you for dying on that cross for my sins.  In Your holy name I pray, Amen.

Congratulations!  It is important for new Christians (as it is with all Christians) to find a good church so that you can learn more about Christ.  Seek out a church that teaches directly from the scriptures.  There is so much growing that we can do in the Word, it's almost endless, the lessons and stories of the Bible.  Every situation you can think of is probably in the Bible!  Use the Concordance in the very back of your bible to look up key words, like 'sins' or 'forgiveness', and it will direct you to the book in the Bible you will find a verse that uses that word!  This is a very helpful tool.

You may also e-mail me and tell me your story!  I am not an expert but I am a believer that Jesus is Lord, and I would love to help you in any way, with questions you might have.  I will do whatever I can to assist you if you want to ask Jesus into your heart!  We are called to witness and to be SALT and LIGHT to the world.  (Matthew 5:13-16)

May God Bless you all the days of your life!

John 3:16

In the city of Chicago, one cold, dark night, a blizzard was setting  in.A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner, the people
were  in and out of the cold. The little boy was so cold that he wasn't trying to sell many papers. He walked up to a policeman and said,
"Mister, you wouldn't happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep tonight would you? You see, I sleep in a box
up around the corner there and down the alley and it's awful cold in there for tonight. Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay."

The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, "You go down the street to that big white house and you knock on the door. When
they come out the door you just say John 3:16, and they will let you in."

So he did. He walked up the steps and knocked on the door, and a lady answered. He looked up and said, "John 3:16." The lady said, "Come on
in, Son." She took him in and she sat him down in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went off.
The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself: John 3:16...I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm.

Later she came back and asked him "Are you hungry?" He said, "Well, just a little. I haven't eaten in a couple of days, and I guess I could stand a little bit of food," The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn't eat any more. Then he thought to himself: John 3:16...Boy, I sure don't understand it but it sure makes a hungry boy full.

She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub filled with warm water, and he sat there and soaked for a while. As he soaked, he
thought to himself: John 3:16... I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a dirty boy clean. You know, I've not had a bath, a real bath, in
my whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out.

The lady came in and got him. She took him to a room, tucked him into a big old feather bed, pulled the covers up around his neck, kissed
him goodnight and turned out the lights. As he lay in the darkness and looked out the window at the snow coming down on that cold
night, he thought to himself: John 3:16...I don't understand it but it sure makes a tired boy rested.

The next morning the lady came back up and took him down again to that same big table full of food. After he ate, she took him back to that
same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fireplace and picked up a big old Bible. She sat down in front of him and looked into his young face.

"Do you understand John 3:16?" she asked gently.

He replied, "No, Ma'am, I don't. The first time I ever heard it was last night when the policeman told me to use it," She opened the Bible
to John 3:16 and began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there, in front of that big old fireplace, he gave his heart and life to Jesus.
He sat there and thought: John 3:16....don't understand it, but it sure makes a lost boy feel safe.

You know, I have to confess I don't understand it either, how God was willing to send His Son to die for me, and how Jesus would agree
to do such a thing. I don't understand the agony of the Father and every angel in heaven as they watched Jesus suffer and die. I don't
understand the intense love for ME that kept Jesus on the cross till the end. I don't understand it, but it sure does make life worth living.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Prayer for Financial Blessings:

Heavenly Father, Most Gracious and Loving God, I pray to you that you abundantly bless my family and me. I know that you recognize that a family is more than just a mother and father, sister and brother, husband and wife, but all who believe and trust in you. Father, I send up a prayer request for financial blessing for not only the person who sent this to me, but for me and all that I have forwarded this message on to. And that the power of joined prayer by those who believe and trust in you, is more powerful than anything. I thank you in advance for your blessings.

Father GOD, deliver the person reading this right now from debt and debt burdens. Release your Godly Wisdom that I may be a good steward over all that GOD has called me to be in my financial Blessings.

Father, for I know how wonderful and mighty you are and how if we just obey you and walk in your word and have the faith of a mustard seed that you will pour out blessings. I thank you now Lord for the recent blessings I received and for the blessings yet to come because I know you are not done with me yet.
In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.

HOW WE TREAT PEOPLE

Five lessons to make you think about the way we treat people.

1. First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello." I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached. It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others," Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3. Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked. "Fifty cents," replied the waitress. The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. "Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied. The little boy again counted his coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream," he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4. Fourth Important Lesson - The Obstacles in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who
removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5. Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts.

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?".

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.
